The New Yorker Picks Anna Kendrick’s and Kristen Stewart’s Films in their 2009 Top Ten

The New Yorker picked Kristen Stewart’s Adventureland and Anna Kendrick’s Up in the Air in their Ten Best Films of 2009:

Anna Kendrick2

“Up in the Air”: The movie’s many ambitions (to be utterly cool and all heart) don’t quite mesh together, and the last third is actually a little boring. But what’s good in Jason Reitman’s adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel is very good—especially George Clooney and Vera Farmiga as two pros in business and in bed carrying on an affair in blank airport hotels and talking as dirty as Bacall and Bogart in “The Big Sleep.”

“Adventureland”: Greg Mottola’s lovely memory of a misspent summer at a tacky Pittsburgh amusement park in the early eighties. Kristen Stewart turns those eyes on Jesse Eisenberg, a toothless non-vampire, as he struggles toward manhood.

I really enjoyed Adventureland, it was funny, quirky but at the same time a bit unsettling when we see that Kristen’s character isn’t just some average kid wasting her summer.  Kristen does a great job portraying a character who has been put through the wringer and we slowly learn how bad of an impact it’s had on her emotionally.

Up in the Air obviously has just come out and I haven’t seen it yet,  but I plan on making a trip to the theater.  It’s getting great reviews.

Congrats gals! Great to see these ladies getting some deserved praise for their work!
